In the House of Representatives yesterday the Minister of Public Works stated that 400 Pons of freight had been taken through the Otira Tunnel last Saturday. The department had, he said, made special rates for coal, .-men as the following:—From Reeftotv. ISs lid per ton ; from Rewanui, 22s per ton. The tunnel would be. rushed forward so as to handle all the available traffic.
At a meeting of the Committee of the West Coast Rugby Union held at Greymouth last evening Mr J. Steel was appointed captain of the West Coast team for Saturday, and Mr G.
