THE GREYMOUTII PLANS. Official information was received yesterday by the District Railway Engineer's Office that the building of the now workshops at Elmer Dane is to be gone on with. Plans were received showing the alterations at the station. In conversation with a railway official, an ‘‘Argus’ 1 reporter wa» told that the present workshops and engine sheds would he shifted to Elmei Lane, but it was not likely that the work would be commenced for a month or so. Private land bad been surveyed there and would have to be taken over . Alexander Street, which at present runs up over the hill at the back of the station, is to be closed up. and -in overhead bridge is to be erected there. Five sets of rails will cross die present road at this point. A large block of land, mostly residential area, though u railway reserve, is marked down for clearance, but all of it may mu. lie needed. Messrs ,Stratford. Blair and Co., the corner of whose ■aisle and door factory comes cm a raiJway reserve, have received a month's notice to remove that part of their milding, as also have Ashby. Bergli, and Go., (who have a brick and concrete structure there), and the Fanners’ Dairy Factory. Pmvision is made for another set of lines across Tnintii Street, which will run as far as Albert Street «i present. Later, no doubt the line will be continued as far as Elmer Lane, and will | form a line over which engines will run from the sheds and workshops to the station yards.
