OPENING OF SOCIAL BUILDING
TO-NIGHT TO-NIGHT
The commodious hall in Sewell Street built as part of the R.S.A. club room scheme, will be opened tonight with a grand fashionable ball. The hall is the largest and most convenient in the town, and will be a useful adjunct to the place. The soldiers have the hall in good trim for dancing, and the interior is gay with greenery and bunting. A large working bee was busy last evening, and the effect, of their handiwork is very gratifying. An enthusiastic ladies’ committee will be in charge of the supper arrangements which is a guarantee that all patrons will be catered for. The entrance will he by the rear of the building adjacent to the former cdurt house, where temporary dressing rooms have been provided. Dancing is to begin at 8.45 o’clock. Mr W. Joyce is in charge of the illusion! arrangements, and Mr 11. Thompson will he M.C'. There should he a gala night in store tor nil who attend.
THURSDAY NIGHT. Tlie usual weekly euchre tournament followed by a dance, will he held in the Social Hall on Thursday night, commencing at 8 o’cock. Admission will he one shilling. During the, evening the aggregate prizes for the tournament will Io presented. The dance will start about 9.30 o’clock and a pleasant evening may be anticipated. FRIDAY NIGHT. Next Friday night will he children’s night. The earlier part of the evening will he a fairy and fancy dress hall for the juveniles, when special prizes will be given for the best fairy, lauey, poster and novelty costumes. In addition, every child attending will reee’ve a novelty present. Children will he admitted for L: and adults who will wind up the night’- dance, will he charged 2s.
SATURDAY NIGHT. On Saturday night the round of festivities to mark the opening of Unsocial hall will he brought to a close by a popular sporis dance. Ibis should he it big wind up. The admission will he one shilling. The whole of the funds derived will he devoted to the completion of the hull, and the erection of the club rooms to he built as a frontage to the hall. It is a most commendable objective in the interests of the returned men, as also for the benefit of tietown, seeing that Mich a useful building will he available as so often required for public purposes. The club room to be erected will include, also, accommodation for a general club, .a most desirable adjunct to the possible amenities of the town with the population steadily increasing. The enterprise and tiio appeal of the soldiers to the project in hand should have a liberal response from the public.
