Tut: SroAit Question. Afercliants at Wellington express different opinions on the question of a protective duty on sugar to keep tlie New Zealand refinery going. Some say the New Zealand market should he I'tee and the Government should not dictate as to tlie quality of sugar. Otto merchiint stated that the possibility of the works at Auckland I'uiiig closed was ‘all bluff," and that the sugar company’s balniirv-sheots showed that they would noi abandon the New Zealand market.
