OBITUARY
Many old friends on the Coast will learn with regret of the death at Murchison of Mr Thomas Afi Farlane (father of Mr Min. AlcFailano, of the Albion Hotel, M rcymnut lip who passed away at In- home yesterday at Iho age ol Sii years alter a lengthy illness. A native of Glasgow, he attained prominence in Scotland its a young man through his ability as a boxer, winning a championship. He landed in the early ’iiO's at Hokitika, where he entered business as a draper. Inter extending his trade to the country districts all along the Coast. He also engaged in mining pursuits, prospecting ill the I .veil mill oilier fields, and he kept an hotel at Ahaiira. and al-o af oilier places. Eventually he moved mirth Irom Alumni to Murchison district. and had since resided there. fn the early days, the late Mr McEarlaile was noted np the Coast in an cx•vri boxer, and is said to have been Ihe lii'M scientific exponent of the noble in in Ibis part of New Zealand, where he tutored several men who made good in the ring. Predeceased by lii.s first wife, deceased leaves, besides a widow and a sister (Mrs C.
