ALLIANCE OF LABORER.
WELLINGTON. June 17. The formation in the principal towns of the Dominion of Industrial District Councils of the Alliance of Labour is proceeding steadily. M ithiu the past fortnight, arrangements in connection with this important step in organisation and tlio development of the Alliance have been made at Napier and Gisborne. Oher district councils have already been set up in Christchurch, Greymouth, and ’Westport. Arrangements will he completed in the next few weexs tor the establishment of similar bodies at Tiniaru, Dunedin, Invercargill, Hamilton, Auckland, and other centres. Tho question of forming a local council has been deferred in the four chief centres pending negotiations with the Trades and Labour Councils upon a proposal that thev shall become affiliated with tho Alliance of Labour. If satisfactory arrangements can be made. Trades and Labour Councils in the four largest centres will function as district Councils of the Alliance of Labour in their respective areas. The idea of the Industrial District Councils as explained by the secretary of the Alliance Mr J. Roberts, is that they shall function locally for the Alliance, thus simplifying the work of organisation. Another object is said to ho that it gives tlio workers in the different industries affiliated with the Alliance direct representation in the management of the parent body.
