HOUSE OF COMMONS.
AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. LEGITIMACY BILL. LONDON ,June 10. In tho Mouse of Commons the Legitimacy Bill was amended before tho third reading was carried. As introduced, the Bill provided that all children born out of wedlock were to b« legitimatised by tlio subsequent marriage of their parents. The amendment limits the measure to the. children of unmarried parents, and states:— “Nothing in this Act shall operate to legitimatiso a person whose father or mother was married to a third party when the illegitimate person was horn.” There was a sharp debate on the amendment, during which it became apparent that the measure would be jeopardised if the amendment was resisted. Eventually C'apt. Bowyor, in charge of the Bill, accepted the amendment which was carried without a division.
