The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. MOTION OK SYMPATHY. The Chairman moved that a letter of sympathy and condolence be forwarded to the relatives of the late Nurse Berry, conveying the deep sympathy of the Board in the loss they have .sustained.—Seconded hv Mr Blank and carried in silence. 1 NAY Alt D COltlt HSPON DKNCE. From Grey Hospital Board, asking for particulars of salaries paid.—Received. The Secretary conveyed to the Board the personal thanks of Mr AA . Berry of lleiepo for the kindness of the Board to the late Nurse Berry. From Health Department, in reference to subsidy on motor ambulance ! dona! ions... Received. From Secretary, Medical Board. Kumar:,, asking the Board to cancel the engagement entered into with Dr Daniel:-, a- medical officer at Kumar,., naing to the Board being tumble to e.m y out their financial obligations.— Received, li was resolved to give three months’ notice ol terminal ion of contract to Dr Darnels. From Dr Daniels, Kumnra, asking in view ol the decision ot the Kunoira Medical Board, for a testimonial to be supplied.— Received and agreed to. From A. G. Harris, resigning her position as Matron ot AAestland Hospital, owing to ill health.—Received. Mr Blank moved that ttie resignation be accepted with regret, and that application he invited for the position returnable at next meeting.—Seconded

From Mrs Fane, resigning position as Matron at Otira Hospital.—Received and accepted, a vote ol thanks being passed in appreciation ol her services.
From Dr Fast, Otira, in reference to Matron Fane's resignation.—Received The Chairman said there was a great amount of correspondence on the matter which it was not necessary to iay before the Hoard. Mrs Singer had heeu appointed acting Matiou. Mr Jeffries moved that in view ol the condition of a flairs at Otira Hospital, as shown in the correspondences before the Hoard and in view of the rcf,„al ~f the Public Works Department to further contribute, and of the Hallway Department to contribute to the upkeep. that the time has arrived lor the Otira Hospital to ho closed, and that the employees thereof he given three months’ notice of the formulation of their engagement and the closing of that institution. Mr -Jeffries said his reason lor the motion was that the Public WorkDepartment declined to further c'Htiish'ite 'o the upkeep of the hospital at Otira. and that the Railway Depanmem had declined to contribute, while there was now far better eomHiUrde.il'on by rail and nmim eat. was satisfied the lime had arrived when ihe Hoard should -take action and close the hospital.— Seconded by Mr Wells, wlm thought that the proposed change would he an advantage to all. and that the Hospital Hoard would he doing a wise action. Mr Davidson supported the motion. The hospital had been opened to assist Die work of I he tunnel. Those works were now bring « omploiod and the hospital would not he such a necessity as ii had been in-the past.. Mr Doll' supported considering ;! was advisable to close the hospital, in view of the decision of the Publm Works Department not to further contribute and of the refusal of the Hallway Department io assist, in the upkeep. „ The Chairmen said the Public V, orb ; Department had refused to further as:is ; ., and the Hoard could not lias-nee the extra C'IVMI involved by the loss of sub.illy. Applications were received for Hie position of Nurse at Mesllaiil Hospital a- follows: Kilim .McMillan, Christchurch. F. S. Templeton, Aletliven. Margaret Smith, ’Jimniu. Miss Fllcn McMillan was appointed to ihc position. RETURN OF COAL. The Secretary supplied a return showing that during the past year in tons ~ ewt of coal at a cosL of £->2, Ss 10d were used, and Cl> Ms for wood, a total for fuel of £573 ‘As lOu. It. was resolved to invite tenders for the erection of a garage for the motor ambulance. NURSE’S COTTAGE AT WAIHO. One tender was received for the erection of the Nurse’s cottage at Waiho, from C. D. Mills. Matnimii, at L'l7ts. The tender was accepted. REPORTS. The House Committee recommended that two rooms he papered in the nurses building.—Received and approved. Tt was resolved to hold the annual hospital ball on Wednesday. July 18th. Accounts amounting to £llO Os fid were passed for payment. From Treasurer, reporting receipts £?22 17s 8d ; payments £‘Boo J3s Id; credit balance £(105 11s fid: building fund payments for month, £6215 5s 10(1. —Received. After discussion as to the time of meeting, consideration was deferred. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT. Pursuant to the resolution of the Board carried at last meeting, yotti Committee met on Monday, -May 28th. 1923. at 7.30 p.m. After going into details as to missing titles and properties of the Board for which no titles exist, it was decided to authorise tho j Secretary to procure a title for a three j acre reserve at Ivumara, which was ; vested in tho Trustees as a corporate body at a cost of £-1 (is. The title to Moody’s paddock at Ho Ho at a cost . of £1 2s was also authorised. The ; Westland Hospital reserves we find arCj not vested in a- corporate body but in : the individual members of the old , Trustees who have all left for a “better laud," leaving no trace of their administrators, executors, or assignees. ' Under these conditions we suggest that the Board solicit the assistance of the Hon Minister of Health to have re- ' serves No. 16, 1-14, 455 vested in the
Westland Hospital Board by a clause in the Washing-tip Bill at the end of the coming session. All titles to the other properties of the Board are now in the Hoard’s safe, excepting a title to one small section not important.— Received. The Board rose at 10 p.m.
