WESTLAND RACING CLUB

THURSDAY, HAY 31st. A meeting of‘.tho Committee of the above Club was; held at 8.10 p.m. at the Club rooms. Present:—.Messrs F. McGregor (voted to the chair), 11. A. Thompson, A. W. Yarrall, M. Houston, J. Peake, and D. J. Evans. Mr \Y. K. Williams telegraphed an apology from Waiho Gorge, and apologies were made for the absence of Messrs Keller, Rutland, and MHntosh, out of town. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Westland A. and P. Association wrote enquiring oil what terms the ('lni, would sub-iease a portion of the inside of the racecourse grounds, to prepare same for show purposes, Informing a. track and show ring.—Horeived. It was resolved to grant the lease as requested at a nominal rental, subjeci to the works determined upon being approved, Air Sellers to prepare the lease for the term available with the right- of renewal according to tlic powers of the Club. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote in respect to acquiring two sections near the approach to the course, and it -was resolved to apply to the Land Board accordingly. Mr Thompson reported in respect to Ihe late storm damage to the totalisator house and fences, and stated repairs would be put in hand as soon as the material could he procured. Ho estimated the cost at something under ClflO. The roof for the totalisator house would bo designed differently, and the verandah would be separate from Hie roofing cover. The works were approved, memLors considering; that on the whole the escape of tho buildings from the effects of the visiting whirlwind had been rather fortun-

ate. The question of tho purchase of a horse for the course was left to the Caretaker and Feerelary. A discussion ensued in regard to the stakes for the Exhibit ion meeting at Christmas, but owing to the absence from town of four members, a. decision was deferred. The feeling expressed v.as to increase the stakes by £‘3oo, and to hold the Cup race on the opening date. The question of imludi"ng four events under hack conditions was discussed and will lie taken up later. The meeting concluded at 9.10 p.m.
