HOKITIKA BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

TUESDAY, MAY 29. A meeting of the Committee was held at the Town Clerk’s office at 7.30 o’clock. Present: Hon H. L. Michel (President) in the chair; (Mesdames Bennett and Pilkington, Messrs Irvine, Niven, Evans, Preston and Pilkington. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed, and the outward coirespondence approved. The Hon Secretary reported that during the past month the Caretaker had boon,attending to general works on the grounds. Some gravelling had been done on Cass Square, and the plot for the Burns statue had been attended to by the removal of some trees and the levelling of the ground.—Approved. The question of further work on { ass Square was discussed. It was suggested that the grass on the eastern side should ho cut, and that the surface along portion of the southern side might be levelled the first time too grader was in operation. The top dressing and draining of the main foolball ground was discussed also, as matters requiring attention at the first opportunity. It was resolved to consult the Reserves Committee of the Borough Council in regard to the works. Various arrangements for the forthcoming Poster Parade and Novelty Bazaar in aid of tho funds of the Society to he held next Tuesday and Wednesday, were discussed. It was resolved to hold a meeting of the stallholders and others assisting at the Bazaar, at the Princess Theatre on Thursday afternoon at 3.30 o’clock to fix the sites for the stalls, eie. It was decided not to make any charge for admission to the Bazaar during the afternoon, and to fix the evening charge, when the entertainment will be in progress at- Is. The Bazaar wiii open at 2.30 on Tuesday next, and from 7 o’clock in the evening. In connection with the Poster Parade, every person paying for admission will receive a voting paper. Extra voting papers for the best costume will be obtainable at threepence each. It was reported that the general arrangements for the Bazaar were proceeding very satisfactorily. The meeting concluded at 8.15 p.m.
