ROSS NEWS.
(From Our Correspondent). A meeting of the Ross Borough Council took place in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening. Present:—His Worship the Mayor (S’. P. Evans, Esq), Councillors J. At. Allan, H. Osmers, J. Thompson, F. Mitchell, At. Nolan and C. Upjohn. The minutes of the previous meeting ’ were read and confirmed and the outward correspondence was approved. | INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Government Statistician, asking for a return of buildings erected or 1 demolished during the past year.—Received; Clerk to supply information. Front Same, asking for information for insertion in Municipal hand book.— Received and referred to Town Clerk. From Treasury, notifying remittance of Goldfields Revenue for March, £24 Is 9il.—Received. From .Medical Officer of Health, requesting that in view of plague in India that anti-rat measures be adopted. —Received; resolved to again purchase rats at Od each. From Alines Department, stating roads on Goldfields Estimates were being prepared and asking that any applications be forwarded at an early date. —Received. From Westland Chamber of Commerce, advising the Triennial Conference of 1-ooal Bodies would take place at Hokitika on 30th -May.—Received. From Ross Football Club, asking for use of Totara Hall for football practices.—Received. Resolved the request be granted subject to the Club giving * a guarantee they would be responsible 1 for any damage. The Finance Committee presented : accounts to the amount'of £lls 19s 2d, which were passed for payment. The Treasurer presented his state- ( ment showing receipts since last: meeting to he £sl. Cr. balance at date, * general account £B3 Is Bd. The report ' also showed the amount of rates collected for Lite past year was the high- c ost on record, the total amount collect- 1 od exceeding the amount- struck for last 1 year by £OO, and the amount ontstand- 1 ing was the lowest on record. The fees s collected for rent of reserves (£120) r was also the highest on record.—Re- L port received, approved and adopted. c A resolution was passed congratulating the Town Clerk on the very full I’ statement put before them and on flic exceptional results obtained on the 1' year's work. i The following Committees were ap- g pointed for the discing year. Finance—Crs. Osmers (chair), Nolan, Sl Upjohn and Allan. 11 Public Works— Crs. Alinehnn (chair), Black, Muir and Allan. l ‘i Reserves— Crs. Thomson (chair), No- j U lan, Aluir, and Mitchell. n Cemetery—Crs. Upjohn (chair), Alitchcll, Aluir and Nolan. Kt Baths, Lighting and Hall—Crs. Black -N (chair),) Osmers and Minehan. 1 ): Library—Crs. Osmers, Mitchell and Allan. To Sign Documents—Crs. Osmers and 1" Black; .Mayor to he member of all committees ex-officio. It was resolved that the Council meeting niLrhts he the Ist and 3rd Thursday in each month.
Cr. 'Upjohn moved and the Mayor .seconded that Cr. Osmers he appointed Deputy Mayor for the ensuing term.— Carried.
