BRISBANE, A lay 13. After a strenuous election campaign. the State elections took place yesterday. Fine weather prevailed, and the elections passed 1 off quietly. The issue was practically confined to Labour versus anri-Laliour and Premier Theodore’s pre-election forecast that the Labour Party would retain command with a majority of not less than eight, appears from the early figures likely to be fulfilled. Though most of the returns are still incomplete, the Labour .Party appears Lo have won 38' seats; the United Party 16; and the Country Party five seats. In seven of the remaining 13 constituencies Labour is leading, while the Conn ry Party is leading in the balance. The last Parliament consisted of 37 Labour. 21 Country Party, and 11 -Nationalists. Since the dissolution the ‘‘United Party” was formed, consisting of the Nationalists and a section of tho Countvyites. Both sections of the Count ryites are, however. anti-Ln hour.
