From Pine Mills, Ltd., offering to rent winch when returned from Marion and Keeney, and stating amount prepared to give.—Received. After discussion this offer was accepted, the rent offered by each being equal. Mr Nightingale drew attention to Hit' serious condition of several parts of the wharf. After discussion it was resolved that the Chairman and Secrctarv make an inspection and report at next meeting. The Acting Harbourmaster reported: 1 beg to report that the Channel is at present in good order and running straight to sea, carrying about an average depth at high water of 1-1 feet. These conditions have prevailed for a period of about -twelve months. As you will notice, the average depths of water on the bar is a decided improvement on conditions existing for any given period for many years
back. It is worthy of notice that -.he tug Westland, ’drawing close on 9 feet of water, entered tlie river at low tide. In reference to these facts 1 would like to draw the attention of the Board to a decided change that is taking place in the course of the river in as much as it appears to affect the depth of water at the berthage. The main stream above Kirkstall is showing a tendency to revert towards its original course along Gibson’s Quay. To assist it in this way I would respectfully draw the Board’s attention to the fact that the conditions now prevailing present, in my opinion, a good opportunity at a minimum cost for the erection of a groin or some other obstruction at the point most suitable. A short distance above Kirkstall would bring about the desired result. If this object were accomplished the sand bank now forming abreast of the signal station would naturally be swept away. —Received.
Accounts totalling .£l7 10s -Id were passed for payment. This concluded the business and the meeting adjourned.
