AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. TURKS CLOSE BANK. CONSTANTINOPLE, May 7 Financial circles are disquieted by the Turkish authorities closing the local branch of the Bank ol Athens, and seizing the funds, two-thirds of which are French. The High Commissioners decided to refer the matter to their respective Governments for instructions. Official circles declare that the action is a reprisal for the Greek Government’s seizure of property belonging to Macedonian Moslems, and the hank’s allegedly granting credit to Greek speculators contrary to Government orders.
The Angora Government ordered the closing of French companies which failed to comply with the registration order, disregarding French official requests for an extension of time for registration.
