It is understood that Bnrhot used only four litres of petrol on the journey chiefly for climbing and seeking favourable air-currents. The monoplane was really an air yacht. The aviator sat in the luiil nil fixed birdliko wings on each side. At the tear of the hull were controlling plants for steering to and fro, and side to side. Barbot commenced by rising to five thousand feet, and when he found the wind be switched off the engine and sailed through the air. When lie lost the wind he switched on the motor and sought the upward and horizontal breeze. At times be got along with only four horse power, which is about that of a motor cycle. Barbot glided hack to St. Inglevert in 44 minutes. Barbot says bis monoplane cost £7O. and the petrol for the double journey sixpence.
