A CANDIDATE'S POSITION. (To the Editor). Sir, • Re Properly Owner; His effort to injure my candidature is as silly as it is contemptible. I am eligible on the double basis of rates and residence. Alls Alackny and 1 paid rates on a section in Hampden Stieet lung before we tame to live in Hokitika and we have been paying ever since. AVe hope to pay rates long after ‘•P.O." is as dead as Tu-Taukh-Anien. As to our methods of paying rates. “l’.O.'’ is sure off the trail if lie thinks the citizens of Hokitika wish to pry into my piiva.tr- domestic aflairs. Let me assure ‘ P. 0." however that they are quite healthy. On the score of rates I am therefore virtually eligible; on the score ol residence 1 am eligible; what more cm; lie asked ?
