BRITISH AND INTERCOLONIAL EXHIBITION.
ACCOMMODATION’ COMMITTEE. THURSDAY, APRn, 19th. The above Committee met at the County Chambers at 3.15 p.m. Present — Alessrs \Y. Keller (in the Clmir), 11. Junes. J. J. .Mclntosh. J. L. Fowler and Al. Keenan. Alessrs Butler, Perry, Ait ken and Evans representing the Exhibition Council, were also present. It was reported that the Central Hotel has arranged for additional accommodation for 25. The Red Lion for not less than 50 extra. The Dimedin hotel for 16 extra, and Kellers Hotel would make immediate provision lor additional accommodation with other arrangements to follow. In respect to private accommodation, reports "ere received that accommodation for about 30 hud been offered. 11l respect to the matter of private neccmniodution, it was resolved to ask Alls AleW'hirter to make a canvass if the residential portion of the town, with a view to ascertaining what accommodation could he provided, and to report to a. later meeting. A tariff wasuggested, in regard to this matter which will be submitted to the private houses willing to accept paying guests.
It was resolved to establish an accommodation bureau in connection with the Exhibition, and a daily register will he kept of available accommodation. It was decided to again write the proprietors of country hotels for information a- to accommodation, as it was considered such premises would be in regular demand to supply accommodation for visitors arriving hv private motor ears. Air Butler referred to the good feeling shown outside the district towards the E’xhihiton movement, and there was no doubt as to the success the Exhibition would he. It behoved them to do everything possible in connection with aeeommodation in the town as well as the district, as there would ho steady influx of visitors throughout the peri'd of the Exhibition. There was no doubt that the people of Canterbury in particular would Hock to the Coast, and ill] parts of flic district should prepare tor the influx of visitors, lie considered that very useful work had been done that afternoon and if all the ■Licensed Victuallers would co-operate in the spirit shown that day. a- very great deal could he done towards meeting the requirements. ENTERTAINMENT ft UMAHTTKE. A meeting of the Entertainment Committee was held at 7.40 p.m. Present

Apologies were made for the absence of Airs Staveley, and .Messrs Staveley and Williams. Mr Evans was voted to the chair in the absence of -Mr Williams. The Chairman detailed matters in ('turned ion with the preliminary nrraiigemeiits for entertainments during the period of the Exhibition, and suggestions were invited. A. meeting of the Art Committee was held at 8.30 p.m. Present-—Dr. Tcichellitantt (in the Chair). Ale-alamos Wilson and Butler, and Alessrs J. Park and 11uglt'-s. Messrs Jeffries and Evans represented tltc Exhibition Council. The meeting considered proposals for an Ait display, in eonneetimi with the Exhibition, and it was resolved to write to the Government for the loan of the speeal War pictures, and also for the use of the Alaori Arts and Grafts Exhibits. It was decided to enquire with regard to the loan ol the “Goldie” collection of Maori pictures, and also to enquire from the .Metropolitan Art Galleries as to pictures considered available for Exhibition at Hokitika. In this connection the picture ‘'ln Time of Peril' at Auckland, was specially mentioned. It was considered advisable that the valuable collections forwarded should hi* shown in a fire-proof building, and it was resolved to approach the Library Committee of the Borough Council with regard to the u>e of one or two rooms of the Carnegie Library. It was resolved to enquire for the loan of photographs of West. Coast scenery and to arrange for a special display in the upper portion of the Town Hall. It was decided to hold a photographic competition, and to vvlite to tlte Mines Department for the loan of a series of New Zealand Alining pictures in the possession of that Depart-

The matter of securing statuary tor the Exhibition was mentioned, and it wa.- resolved to make enquiry in reto this matter. It was indicated to the Committee that their advice would be sought with regard to the scheme for the interior decorations for the buildings, and when the plans were available the matter would be brought up again.
