ANZAC DAY.

COMMEMORATION ARRANGEMENTS.

Anznc Day will lie observed next Wednesday as a c-lose public holiday. At the invitation of the Returned Soldiers’ Association which was asked to arrange the matter, Captain Stedman. Area Officer for the district, has kindly consented to unveil the memorial tablet at All Saints’ Church at the forenoon service. The tablet is to the members of All Saints’ Literary Club who fell in the war.

Parades of the Territorials and Cadets for next Wednesday forenoon is being arranged by the Defence Office. The parade will attend the church services and later march to the StateSchool grounds where the School Memorial will he unveiled. The parade will provide a firing party, and after the ceromom* in the school grounds wreaths will be deposited at the Cenotaph and the South African War -Memorial where, also, three volleys will he fired and the “Last Post” sounded. All returned men will he invited to parade in mufti and, in the procession, will follow immediately behind the Municipal Band which has been asked to lead the procession.

Poppies to bo worn on Anzac Day will be on sale in Hokitika next Saturday. Supplies have been sent to the country schools which have ordered same. The available supply of poppies, particularly the large poppies, is very restricted this year owing to a shortage in the number received in the Dominion.
