POPPY DAY.
NEXT SATURDAY. Ye.-terday the supply of poppies to be- worn as flowers of remembrance on Anzue Day. were received by tho Returned Soldiers’ Association. The supply this year is limited for some reason. the quantity ordered for New Zealand not being forthcoming. As a consequence the floppies are being distributed pro rata in accordance with the orders sent in. The local supply has been handed to the Mayoress (Airs Perry) who with a bevy ol ladies will conduct the sale next Saturday.
In addition to the supply of small and large poppies—the. former being sold at Is and the latter at 2s. there are also n few wreaths forwarded to be sold at 10s and 15s. each, respectively. Like the poppies the number is limited, ami early application for supplies should he made by those who do not wish to be disappointed. Orders from the country are now being filled, and it is expected that the number for the town sale will be rather resit ic-Letl.
The poppies are made hv the children in the devastated areas of France, and the surplus from the sale alter payment for the poppies and Xew /.calami expenses in transport and advertising will he refunded to the respective districts in proportion to the amount raised, and the money utilised in affording employment to returned -oldicrs in search ol work. The Soldiers' Depot in Bevoll St will he the headquarter- for Saturday's sale campaign, wldeli will proceed throughout the day. liaise willing to help are requested to notify Airs Perry who will he glad of all practical assistance ill the sale ol poppies. Aliz.ac Day falls on Wednesday. April dfith.. and the poppies may he worn that day as flowers of remembrance. An/.ac l)av will, as usual he a dose holiday, and there will he a parade of the returned men in mufti, when they wall take part in the unveiling of the State School memorial, and afterwards visit the Cenotaph and South African memorial. All returned men are expected to take part in these acts, ol remembrance. _____
