Ihe statement has been published in the Sydney palters that the New Zealand Forestry Department has discovered a large grub pest in a shipment of Australian hardwood. The pest, which, however, is the most feaicd among builders and houscholdei s here, and which undoubtedly has cau-cd and is causing seiioti- damage, is small dust and allied borers, the presence of which is less discovered by non-expert. > than that of the larger better-known grub. The Forestry Department and building trades have been conducting exhaustive investigations with a view tu checking the pest, anti thev claim to have discovered various remedies for preserving woods trom attack. or ridding them after becoming infested. The matter is regarded as one of serious importance to the umber trade generally.
