ACSTBAUAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION'

RUMOURS OF INTERVENTION. LONDON, March 16. Paris, London, and Berlin witn rumours of impending interv&stion, with a view to ending the Ruhr problem. The “Daily Chronicle’s” Berlin correspondent declares that all the moderates are crystallising round the possibility of Britain opening a way to negotiations for a settlement, not only of the Ruhr, but of the entire reparations problem, being inspired by reports from London and Paris that the British Cabinet will propose an international economic conference, asking the German Government if it would participate. The correspondent says lie learns Chancellor Cano has informed the Party leaders that England had extended feelers to Berlin regarding the possibility of intervention. »

On the contrary, it is stated in London, more or less authoritatively, that there is no question of British intervention, hnt it is no secret that, on the British side, the desirability has been urged mi Berlin to make a clear, sincere statement on its reparations policy. WASHINGTON, March 15. The Secretary for State, Mr Hughes lias issued a statement declaring without foundation the report that Britain had approached the United States regarding intervention in the, Ruhr, to which overture the United States allegedly had not replied. Mr Hughes said the British Government had made no proposal or suggestion whatever to the American Government for mediation or intervention of any sort with respect to the Ruhr situation.
