THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.

A Dixa»k.nt Am. In the course of an interview iu Auckland last week Miss Rosina Buckmau gave it as her candid opinion that musically New Zealand has been at a standstill for at least twelve years. She was comparing impressions of a tour through the Dominion just concluded with those of a visit twelve years ago. and she deplored that young people no longer seemed to lie interested in good music. “Perhaps.” she hazarded, “it is the jazz that is upsetting the standards. Jazz is good in the right place, but everything now is jazz, and I do not think its influence will be good, j.'or the sake of the musical standards of the Dominion, 1 hope more will be done to inculcate a love of good music."
