Advice has been received that Ah W. Jenkins, President of the New Zealand Industrial Corporation, will visit Hokitika for the coining week-end in conjunction with Air AVoodrnffe to discuss exhibition matters with the local people. While here Air Jenkins would like to meet local manufacturers with a view to linking up with the Industrial Association of Canterbury and a meeting is to he arranged to that end.
The* ladies of Hokitika are reminded of the meeting at the Town Hall at 3.30 o’clock tomorrow afternoon with regard to organising a bazaar for June next in aid of the Hokitika Beautifying Society. The Society has a good deal of work ahead of it this year and is anxious to have an assured finance. Tlic work hitherto done is generally approved, and no doubt there will lie read'" support- by the ladies of the town and district to the forthcomcoining proposal.
At the Town Hall on Thursday alteruoou and evening there will he a (lower show in aid of the Hums Memorial Fund. There promises to tie a very bright array of cut blooms. Air A. B. Boyd. who is organising the benefit will alone display over thirty varieties of flowers, while many other exhibitors are taking part. There will he a promenade concert at night, and a ladies committee is providing a jumble stall (mainly of home, dainties) as also a refreshment stall.
Fines were at Heefton imposed on three persons under the Legislature Act. Ethel Nancarrow was charged by A. K. Reynolds (Registrar) that she did make a false statement, in a claim for enrolment under the Legislature Act, 1908. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay 7s Court, costs and £1 Is witnesses’ expenses. AY. Purton, for making a false statement in a claim for enrolment, was convicted and ordered to pay Court costs 7s. and £1 Is witnesses’ expenses. Bessie AYilliams, in that she did sign the name of J. AA’il-fia-ms to n claim for enrolment, was convicted and ordered to pay 7s Court costs and witnesses’ expenses £1 Is.
The usual notices regarding deer shooting appear in last week's “Gazette.” In addition there are published regulations for the destruction of deer by persons appointed by aeelamatisation societies in districts where the society deems it necessary to have the doer thinned out. These districts are Ashburton. Otago, and Hawke’s Bay. Tit the llotoiti red deer district, the power to destroy is vested in the general manager of Tourists and Health Resorts. There is to he an open season for wapiti and moose shooting in the Fiordland national park. The seasons extend from Afareh 24th to Alav 31st. each day inclusive. Only wapiti stags and hull moose may he killed. The license fee for wapiti is £lO. Only two licenses will he issued, and no licensee shall kill morn than two wapiti stags. If more than two people apply for license, provision is made for a ballot. The license fee for moose is C3O. Only two licenses are to he issued, and each licensee is entitled to kill only one hull moose. If there are more than two apnlicants the licenses shall he fixed by ballot.
Air F. J. Board, exprinter of ihe “lb-css.” who is retiring alter a
lengthy service, having join;' d the “Dress” in 1878, was furowclled on Friday, by a large gathering representative el all denartments. Air E. T. Gotirlay, father of the chapel, presented Air Board, on behalf of the combined staffs, with a silver-mounted, solid leather suitcase, a shaving outfit, a gold-mount-ed cigarette holder. Reference to the cordial relations which had existed between Mr Board and the editorial stall' were made by .Messrs Af. G. Keane, editor of the “Dress. ’ and A. 11. Bri*icd. editor of the “A\ eekly Press. ’ Air Board entered the service of the “Christchurch Dress” Company in 1878. Among the speakers was another old West Coaster. Afr H. Kent, who said that bis working relations with Air Board bad ox funded over more than 5!l years. Mr Board having started as a jun'or to him at tin* ‘AA’est Coast Times” in Hokitika. Air Kent had joined the “Press” office about 46 years ago. and Afr Board had followed him from the A\ cst Coast a tew months later. Air Kent went on to say mat during the whole of the time he had been in the employ of tie Dress Company. there bad been but throe printers'. which spoke volumes for tho nianin which the company treated its employees. Afr Board had always been a ,moll friend, a good printer, a fair man to his men, and a valuable man to the company.

Judging by tho reports of donations of goods and kind tho Public Hall will hardly be large enough to hold the display. There will bo a. great display and it will be well worth a visit. .Many townspeople have already arranged to visit Kokatahi for the afternoon, and the run out into the country should prove an enjoyable one. In the evtming the proceedings will ho wound up with a ball.
At last meeting of Kumarn Borough Council, tile Westland Hospital Board wrote asking the consent of the C.uincil to the Board borrowing the sum of £7OOO bearing interest at the rate of 6 per cent for 21 years to complete the building scheme of the Westland Hospital, in which is included the requisite sum for an Old People’s Home at Hokitika. The Council decided it was against the proposal, and instead suggested that the Westland and the Grey Boards be asked to meet in conlerence to see if arrangements could not lie cume to whereby the old people of the Westland and Grey district could bo accommodated in tho present Home at Kuinnra.
