CHRISTCHURCH, March 2 The first Christchurch prosecution under the Hospital Act forbidding tho use of a house as a private hospital for more than two patients, unless licensed, took place, this morning, when Emma Irving was charged with having four maternity cases at her home. She pleaded that the-doctor sent two emergency eases, and in one ease the baby was born half an hour after admission. The Magistrate, in imposing a fine of El and costs, said it was necessary that private maternity hospitals should he under the strictest supervision, and unless registered such supervision was impossible. SC HOLASTIC TROUBLE. CHRISTCHURCH, March 2 Owing to the non-arrival of provincial li-t of matriculation certificates from Wellington, several students have been refused enrolment at Canterbury College. However, the trouble is only temporary and no delay has occurred in regard to the lecture- of students concerned. Tlie Registrar ol the (ollege says that the arrival of the matriculation list is annoying but enrolment has been granted to all who produce certificates.
