THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
Tun Precarious Position. Tin* Government has an exceedingly precarious possession of the Treasury benches, which a couple of by-elections or the temporary absence at any time of one or two members from the House may undermine. No self-respecting Government could regard a situation ot this kind with equanimity, especially with the knowledge that the verdict of the people is in favour of the Opposition. The dismissal of the Massey Government from oflice is merely postponed.—The Lyttelton Times.
