It has not yet been ascertainM whether a deputation from the Railway and foundry Picnic Commit Lee ‘'squared” the Clerk of the Weather, hut lie was eertniuly in a most benign frame of mind on Saturday morning, with the Jesuit that the .1400 odd picknickers who journeyed to .Mahiiiapiia l.ake voted the Railway and Foundry picnic the event of the year. The first train left til !) a.m. followed by another in a few minutes, residents of Puma. Gladstone and other intermediate stations joining the picnic en route. The organisation of the outing must he characterised as perfect, and everything was in readiness for the enjoyment of the large crowds as they left the trains. The coppers were boiling and even placards announcing the times of the baby show and commencement of the sports had been erected. The picnickers soon spread over the ground of Mr •Tim Phillips, the proprietor of Maliinapua Hotel, whose hospitality conduced not a little to the people’s enjoyment. Others found delight in the sylvan loveliness of Mnliinnpiui’s shores and the Track. For others King Willow he’d the most attraction. Adult and children’s sports and open-air dancing occupied the afternoon. The Greyinouth Municipal Band which hud a good muster, played numerous selections during the dav.
