The Chairman to move: "Tha: the accounts for the mouLli of January. 1033, a.s revised and recommended for payment by the Finance Cuniniitfrc amounting to be passed for payment.” - - C’r Murdoch to move: "That ibis Council views with strong disfavour the suggestion made by an Oilieer of the Public Works Department to the* recent Silting Commission at Waihi to interfere with the terms oi existing grain - of mining privilege* in the direction of iir r: asing the rents l hereof, and points out that to increase the rents of already granted n sidencc sites to ,C 7 IBs per annum, and lnisin.es silts in Lie pci million would be confiscatory and a distiiui broach of contract h.v the Crown as Grantee ; and also would be a complete dcpnrniro from the principles of The Mining Acts under which the grants ar, made; moreover, the adoption ot such an unfair proposition with regard to residence sites and business .sites would probably be a precedent for similar action in regard to claims, water races, and other mining privileges.”
SPECIAL MEETING. (To sit at 3 p.m.) 1. The Chairman to move:— “That the Council proceed to pass by special order, a by-law as before the meeting for consideration, providing for the licensing of vehicles using the roads within the County, and prohibiting the use of vehicles on such roads without a license: also appointing fees to lapaid to the County Fund Account m respect to tin* licensing ol vehicles as passed.”
