LIGHTNING KILLS MAN
S7JSTRMJAH AND N.Z. CARLE ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH. February 9. A terrific thundcrstori' 1 swept over Cost this afternoon, and a man named Jack Allison was sti uck by lightning and killed. He was employed on H. Tullock’s farm, and when struck, lie was standing on a stack with a loti-, in his hand. Allison was a returned soldier and a single man. The storm came from the sou-west, and tlieic were deafening peals ot thornier. Rain came down in sheets, and there were hail showers, hut within half an hour the sun was shining brightly again. The residents aver that the ground shook at times as the thunder crashed. CHRISTCHURCH. February 9. Allison, who was killed Ly lightning at Oust, was a single mao. .‘l2 years of age. Of the two men who were working with him on the stack, one was rendered unconscious for a time, and tlie other is now stiff and sore on the left side-. At the inquest the verdict was that Allison was killed by lightning. The doctor said death was instantaneous. The lightning set the stack oil fire, but it was soon extinguished.
