THE NEAR EAST.

GRAVES COMMISSION. " THE TIMES ” SERVICE. LAUSANNE, January 26. The Graves suh-Conunission held its final meeting in a forlorn hop© of inducing the Turks of modify their attitude regarding the Anznc zone and -lxteen cemeteries in other parts of the Gallipoli area. Anznc zone is about two and a half square miles, the whole of which, apart from the actual Australasian cemeteries consists of a mass of trenches in which scattered hones are still found from time to time.

The zone, therefore, may properly bo regarded as one huge cemetery, me Turk- again absolutely declined to grant the ownership of anything except-t-lie actual enclosed cemeteries. The British delegations reply was the same as yesterday, namely “we decline to disturb our dead ami will not leave Gallipoli" until (lie safety of the grnvfis is assured.” A deadlock is therefore as complete as possible. .Meanwhile the British have, agreed that if further cemeteries for scattered hones still unburied must bo made, they will consult tile Turks with a view* to fixing the sites.
