FARMERS’ MEETING.
CEXTUAL J‘ACTt.il 1 x I)ISC'l SSKD. A meeting of farmers of the Kokatiild Ytu'ley was held in the l’ttblie Hall. Kokatahi on Saturday evening. The attendance, though lair, suffered as t. result of the very heavy downpour that was experienced. .Mr J. Fleming presided and stated the meeting had been called for the purpose of discussing the centralisation scheme ol a lactory in Hokitika- for the district. Mr Parry spoke at -nme length on the subject of celttralisation and eontentration. and its values. He pointed out the many advantages such a scheme would have to the suppliers, and also to the people of the district, fsiielt a scheme il carried into ‘'fleet would mean a -.uh.sDnii.il increase in land values while it Would prove of advantage in many other directions. It Would also be of advantage to the people of Hokitika and would he teadilv available for the railage . f output to Christchurch, besides enabling a substantial return to he secured in side 1 ities. Many' questions were asked the speaker who replied fully and convincingly tu the queries put to him. \t the conclusion Mr 1.. H. Aforel moved a very hearty vote ol ‘hanks to Mr Party for his very fluent and eomprelten- ive address and the •'■at ista.-tory manner in which he had replied to question- put (•• him. The Chairman seconded the mot-ion. which was rallied amidst applause. After discussion the meeting decided to meet again next Wednesday to consider the np pnintmut of delegates to visit other centres with a view to gaining support to the proposal.
