PUBLIC PICNIC.
j I lie local public picnic took ’place oil i the Ross Recreation Ground on Saturday. The weather was perfect and a largo crowd, including numerous visitors, thoroughly enjoyed the day’s outing, esjteeially the children, who were well catered for. A good working committee kept things moving, and a. variety of competitions were entered into, including races, pillow lighting, boxing, wrestling, blind stabbing, bath diving for coins, tug-’o-wnr, lazy stick, et.s., etc. The winners are too numerous to supply the list of names. The ladies’ committee, ttuder the .Mayoress, attended to the refreshments, the children doing lull justice to the good things provided. During the afternoon the adults were supplied with very acceptable refreshments. The Ross Band was in attendance, and contributed largely to the success of the outing with their varied seleoi ions, fn the evening, a dance was held in the Totnra Hall, and proved very enjoyable. The Ross Orchestra supplied -plondid music, and Mr F. Fellows had charge of the floor.
