FIRE AT ROSS.
(From nil occasional correspondent.) ! regret to report the destruction by fir, a: Ross of Air Rat O’Raw’s n.xidoiicc. The lire broke out at K) a.m. oil Tuesday. Jan 2nd., and the building wa> completely gutted, tin furniture and content- being completely de.-troyed. Air O'liaw had only left the house halt an hour whin the firehell rang out the alarm. The poor old gentleman i s ninety-one years of age and his faculties are as bright as a man of fitly. H< came out to the diggings in Australia in the fifty’s and was otic, of the adventurous gang that rushed Gabriel's Gully and afterwards the Rhotover. He landed in Hokitika in 18(5”) and had a good claim at Donogltno;, near Res-, where he resided tor many long years, and then took up mining at I’o.ss "here he ha- resided ever since. Air O’Raw’s old friendwill he sorry to hear that lie lost everything except the clothes lie stood up in and no doubt '. ill voice our sympathv with one ot the mo-r generous and manly old pioneers- of the past.
