EXECUTION OF CARPENTER. HOBART, Dec. 27. George Carpenter, who was sentenced to death for the murder of Trooper Henderson and two others in a hut, was executed in the Hobart Gaol to-day.

George Carpenter was discovered by one of the police searching parties, seven miles from the scene of the murders. The police surrounded the hut. which Carpenter barricaded. The latter showed fight, and the police fired several shots. Carpenter came out badly wounded in both arms. During the filing, Constable Dodd was wounded 111 the arm by a bullet from one of his companion's rides. The constable and Carpenter wore removed to the Hobart hospital. Carpenter was lormally charged with the murder of Trooper Henderson, whom he alleged he shot by accident. When the oolice surroTitided the hut Carpenter was asked to surrender. Ho replied by firing several charges from a shot-gun. lie screamed when the police lire wounded him. The police then rushed and broke into the hut. RIVAL GANGS’ FEUD. Feuds between rival gangs of young men in North Melbourne threaten a 10eurreuce of the vendetta which throe years ago kept Fitzrov in a state of consternation. The men are armed with automatic pistols. During tho past few clays skirmishes between gangs resulted in four men wounded, two seriously. The victims refuse to give any information to the police, who arc being specially reinforced to suppress the outbreaks.
