AUSTRALIA.-I AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION, AFRICAN EXECUTIONS. CAPETOWN, December 11. There is an agitation in Johannesburg against the death sentences over the rising and it is growing. A meeting was held of the Associated Trade Unions and it was decided to call a meeting of the Union executives, Members of the Assembly, Ministers of religion, and other public men, with a view to considering wha-t steps should he taken to influence the policy of the Government in the direction of initialing prosecutions on something less Ilian a capital charge, and, in the cases of convictions for a capital offence, the more - frequent exercise of . the prerogative of mercy. A resolution was also passed that the sentences passed for alleged crimes during the strike were not justifiable, but wore simply reprisals. The resolution calls on lovers of justice the world over to exercise all possible pressure to stop this policy of reprisals. All the trade unions are urged to agree to stop for a one’ day strike on a given date. Another meeting, at Benoni, passed a resolution to cable the British Premier to intercede for the condemned men. and also to send a deputation to the Premier and the Governor-General. POLITICAL FUNDS. LONDON, Dec 10. The question of party funds is likely to give the mooted Liberal reunion a sudden set-back, says the “Daily Mail’s” political correspondent.
