THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
Tun Liueuai. Recoup. The magnificent record established iiy the Liberal party in New Zealand cannot he equalled by any other country in the civilised world. All classes benefited. The farmer by such measures as the abolition of the Sheep Tax, the Dairy" Industry and Advances to Settlers Acts, together with the opening up of lands tor settlement; the worker by the Advances to AN others Act, the" Workers’ Dwelling Act, the Factories Acts, the Workers Compensation Acts, and other Labour legislation. Strikes were largely avoided by the operation of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Acts. The seaman on his ship, the pioneer on liis holding, the miner at the coal face, the babe in its cradle, the aged poor, all were helped by the beneficient and humanitarian legislation of the Liberal Party in the times gone by. The sending of South African contingents to assist the Mother Country in time of need, and the presentation of the Battleship “New Zealand’ proved that the Liberal party had a wide Imperial outlook, as well as a domestic one and did the right thing at* tilt* right time for the preservation of the Empire. Its financial measures in preventing the Bank of New Zealand from closing its doors, and in establishing a method for the certain extinction of the public debt, at the same time granting the settlers the use of the accrued sinking fund until actually required for repaying loans, these must always he regarded as of the utmost value to the Dominion, and helped enormously to build up the prospenty of New Zealand. The Liberal Party is “coming hack and not before time, to redeem the muddled state of the finances, and give again years of prosperity and employment to the farmers, the workers, and all willing to help rebuild the broken fortunes of New Zealand. An Adapted Lihkhal Signal. Westland expects that every man and woman will, to-morrow, do their duty in the right way and for the right man to ensure the prosperous future of the country, with equal opportunity for all.
