HELPING AMATEURS IN AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, Nov 23. While making duel provision for amateurs, the amended wireless regulations that aro to come into force next month will strictly safeguard the working of defence and commercial stations. AU wireless stations must he licensed by the Prime Minister's Department before they can be legally operated. Provision is made for the following classes of licenses:—Ship station, land station (for inland and isolated localities), coast station, aircraft station, portable "station, and experimental station, (transmitting and receiving). Genuine amateur experiments are to bo encouraged, but precautions are taken to onsuro the safe working of defence and commercial stations which tho indiscriminate use of wireless by amateurs would interfere with. Conditions are laid down regarding the permisabki power to be used in cases where transmitting licenses are granted, tho wave lengths to be employed, and the technical features of receiving apparatus which may lie capable* of causing interference.

Applicants for experimenters’ licenses will ho required to produce evidence of their technical fitness, n.v experience or training, to conduct experiments use fully, and operate their sets satisfactorily, before a license can be granted. Applicants must also disclose particulars of apparatus they propose to operate. To ensure! that nM wireless stations are licensed, regular inspections of suspected stations will be made. With a view to omforeing the regulations,, every retailer of wireless apparatus will be required to keep a record of the disposal of wireless apparatus, and may not sell any apparatus unless the purchaser lias, or is, obtaining a license. Provision is also mails for broadcasting stations, which will conduct the latest developments of wireless. Further considerntoii is being given to the mold suitable method of licensing appaartus for the reception of broadcasted items, so as to guarantee public satisfaction.
