GENERAL ELECTION.

Continuing his tour of -the South AVestland district yes tea-day, *AIr Seddon was fortunate in being able -to fill all his fixtures, as swollen rivers and creeks caused delay at times. It was doubtful at ono time if tho Waitangi could be crossed, but willing bauds assisted and tho crossing was safely made. In due course Air Seddon reached Hnri Hnri where he had a wonderful reception at his evening meeting. There was an unusually large attendance, electors from all over Inter-AVan-gnnui Flat attending. Air W. Thiele occupied tho chair, and presided very happily over a spirited meeting. Air Seddon’s address was well recoiled. In addition to general polities he dealt with a number of local questions relating to district roads and bridges, the details of which lie was able to supply to the satisfaction of the meeting. Altogether the meeting was remarkable for its cordiality, a faot which wa» emphasised, further when Air Seddon answered questions. At tho close, Air A. McArthur moved a vote of thanks and confidence, and in doing so made a very happy reference to Air Reddon’s lino services for the district and hi s greater Mi-vice-for the Empire in the war overseas. ATr C. Glass seconded the motion which was carried with a. hearty showing of unanimity, and a memorable meeting was brought to a close. Then a social was held in Air Seddon’s honor. It was intended also as a welcome to Airs Seddon, but owing to the lady’s temporary indisposition, her absence was apologised for. Dancing was carried on with great vim well into the night. To-day. Air Seddon visited several points about the Flat, including La Fontaine road extension for which a grant of £350 has been made, _ and which the Afember promised to induce--the authorities to undertake without further delav. Later Air Seddon moved north‘again, and concludes Ins southern tour at AAbiitalia. this evening, and will return to Hokitika subsequent to his meeting to-night. AIR LYNCH AT OTIRA.

(Contributed). OTIRA, November 28. The largest political meeting yet held at Otira, took place last evening. Anything between three and four hundred filled the hall and accorded a splendid welcome to Air J. D. Lynch who on entering was greeted with applause. He asked the audience to propose their own chairman and Alatron Singer formerly of Hokitika was chosen and very excellently filled the

position. }fr Lynch spoke for nn hour and fovtv minutes and also answered many questions promptly and well. The candidate thanked the people and portion-' lnrlv the tunnel workers for their excellent hearing and tribute to him. There were no interruptions of any kind. The meeting concluded amidst applause. Mr M. Fitzgerald moved a vote of t Iraqis and Mr Paul Mordaun't seconded. Mil MASSEY'S TOUR, | WELLINGTON, November 27. Mr Massey finished his election tour of file North Island on Saturday and ! arrived in town on Sunday, completing [ n . heavy week with a 200-mile motor 1 trip. Yesterday morning lie was very busily engaged at Parliament Bnildi ings with liis private secretaries and various callers. Mr Massey left- in the afternoon for. the Smith Island to speak at Blenheim last night. A considerable number of meetings have been arranged for Mr Massey in the South Island. He does not expect to he back in AYellington until after election day, December 7.
