SEAMEN'S STRIKE.
[by telegram—per press association J MOERAKI RELIEVING PALOONA. , DUNEDIN, Nov 20. ' The Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce reported at a meeting tonight that the Paloona would be replaced by the Moeraki in the Melbourne service. Movements to-day were:—Arrived, Kama, 7.5 a.m. from Wellington; sailed, Knton,, I p.m. for Bluff; Kini, 10. 45 p.m. for Oamaru.
WAHINE RESUMES. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov 20. It was announced late to-night that the Wahine will resume in the ferry •service to-morrow, sailing front Lyttelton for Wellington to-morrow night, in place of the Mararoa. MELBOURNE REPORT. MELBOURNE, Nov 20. The Paloona. sailed at noon. The Hauraki is expected to get away to-night or to-morrow, most of her crew having agreed to rejoin the ship on the same terms as the Palooua’s crew. AT DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, Nov 20. The Kamo, which sailed on Saturday night for the Chatham.*, took 30 passengers to catch the Tutanekai, but had to make the return journey. The Katoa and Kini are to sail this evening, the former for the Bluff and the hitter for Gisborne. Still a large amount of free- labour is offering. The watersiders are working all vessels. WORK REFUSED. WAIROA, Nov 21. Local watersiders this morning refuso.l to disc-barge cargoes of the Kiri--tona. R.nd Tuntu or load up a meat shipment. Bu.sinoss men and others did the work in excellent style. It is understood the men. boro were not been on refusing work, but acted on instructions Irom Napier.
WORKING A STEAMER. GISBORNE, Nov. 21 A start was made this morning to discharge the steamer Awahou with volunteer labour. A large number of men from offices were available and it is hoped to get the vessel away for tile Coast and Auckland to-morrow. CREW NOT SIGNING ON. GKEYMOUTH, Nov 21. The Progress arrived from Lyttelton to-day. The crew’s articles have expired and the men are not signing on. Meanwhile an early .settlement is expected.
