A ROYAL COMMISSION. WELLINGTON. November 21. Arising out of the Springboks, cable leakage and other inquiries held prieatelv by the Post and Telegraph De- | partment. Mr Hunt, S.M.. has been i appointed a Royal Commission to inquire into allegations by O. C. Mazengarb (solicitor) making charges against administrative and other principal officers fo the Department that in the conduct of inquiries into the charges of misconduct against the officers improper methods had been adopted lor obtaining evidence, and that facts favourable to the accused have been wilfully suppressed and undue harshness observed. The Commission was formally opened and adjourned l'st month and was resumed this morning. Mr H. E. Coombs, for the Officers’ Association and Mr Macassey for the Department. Mr Coombs applied for an adjournment till after the election as he was fully occupied by his candidature and was unable to give the time. Mr Macassey opposed, as the charges had been promulgated among the executive of the Association and might have serious effect upon discipline. After further discussion the hearing was adjourned till 18th. December.
