THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
Sir Joseph Ward
Throughout the whole of the Dominion there will he keen regret that Sir Joseph Ward cannot see his way to be a candidate for election to the (new Parliament. Several constituencies have been angling for tbe \eteian statesman, and Sir Joseph must have been tempted considerably by the persuasions of his friends, particularly in electorates* with which he has beeit closely identified during his business and official life. Not only bis own political friends, but- people of all shades of opinion have deplored Sir Joseph Ward’s absence from Parliament -since the unfortunate result of the Awarua contest three years ago, and we are sure there would be a general feeling of pleasure if he could lie seen taking part in the work of Parliament. giving, as he always did whether in office or not, the benefit of liis wide knowledge and experience to his country.—Lyttelton Times.
