UNITED SERVICE TELEGRAMS POLLING LAY. LONDON. Nov 16. Polling in London areas was cj..jet, opening in the murk of n November i'og, which prevailed during the greater part of the day. An average poll of seventy-five per cent, is expected in fifty-one London seats. A striking feature is the women’s vote. Many women attended the polling booths an hour before the opening. Some absurdities come from Yorkshire constituencies where the names of boys of twelve and three years appeared on the roll.- These were allowed to vote. All West End hotels were permitted to remain open to provide for the wants of crowds thronging the city awaliting the results. For the same pur pose the train, tram and tube services were extended into the small hours. LONDON, Nov. Id. As polling continues to eight or nine o’clock few returns are expected before midnight. WINSTON CHURCHILL DEFEATED, (deceived this dav at 10,30 r.m 1 LONDON, Nov. 16 Hon Winston Churchill was defeated at Dundee. A Labourite beat Sir Donald Maclean at Peebles. Sir Alfred Butt beat J. W. Malden for Balham division of Wandsworth by 9195.
Norton Griffiths was re-elected for Wandsworth Central, with an enhanced majority over the Labourite. Mr Baldwin retained Dewdley division Worcester by a majority of 5443 over the Liberal. Lord Robert Cecil retained his seat by a majority of 5075 over a Labourite.
At Kitchen Bridgcman was re-elect-ed for Oswestry. Mrs Wintringhain heat Hutchings for Louth. Sir Hamar Greenwood has been defeated. Doctor Chappie defeated Kenswick (Conservative) for Dumfriedsbire by 2241. Ormsby Gore retained Stafford by a majority of 3318 over a Labourite. Major Astor defeated Golson, for Dover by 10,000 votes. Dudgeon (Liberal) beat Watson (Scottish Lord Advocate) for Gallaway. Newbald (Communist) was elected for Motherwell division of Lanark where two Liberals split the vote. j Mr Neville Chamberlain retained Lad.vwood division, Birmingham with a reduced majority against Labourite. The latest estimate of the partygains and losses are Conservative gained seven and lost 27; Liberals gained 14 and lost four; National Liberals gained three and lost 27; Labour gained 34 and lost four;. Independents gained five and lost none.

Hon Ainery was re-elected for Sparkbrook division of Birmingham and Colonel Sanders for Bridgewater division of Somerset; Newton Moore for i liugton North. The Liberal candidate defeated Mr Griffith Boscawen for Taunton. .McCurdy was re-elected for Northampton. Clayton (Conservative) defeated Arthur Hcmderson by 14.670 to Id.:- 1 !)/. The state of parties is now:— Conservatives—294. Liberals—44. National Liberals—3s. Labour—los. Various—ll.
Thus the Conservatives now have a majority over all the other parties combined, with 126 results to come.
Received this day at 12.25 p.in.) LONDON, November 16. Compared with 1918 elections the polling in all constituencies was enormously heavy. • Henderson’s defeat at Widnes was a great surprise. Clayton (Conservative) was Jc-eleeted for Hornsby. Sir M. Conway and H. A. L. Fisher retained their seats for the combined Universities of Durham, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham and Bi i.stol Conway leading Fis..or liy a few votes. Warthington Evans was ie-eleetid for Colchester. Sir John Seely and Mr Kellawuy were both rejected. Commander Burney was elected for Uxbridge. J. S. Jackson (the cricketer) was reelected for Hordenshire. The voting in Islington was Newton Moore 13,540, Miss Tubeiville (L.bom ) 7,993; Sargnnt (Liberal) 7,256, Sir John Simon was elected for Spon
Valley. At Durham J. Ritson (Labour) beat Mills (Financial Secretary to the Treasury) by 2072. McCurdy beat Margaret Bonffeld by 5476.

The Conservatives thus have a clear majority over all other parties combined.
Scrymgeour (prohibitionist) was e'ertixl for Dundee with 32587. Morel f.Labourite) was 31,292. Hon. \Y. Clinrcbill was fourth with 20,466 and Pilkington 6,681.
