Shortage of Flour.
Mr George Perry (Mayor) and Moil H. L. Michel, M.L.C., telegraphed tc the Prime Minister pointing out that as n result of tho shipping strike bread supplies would he exhausted in a Fr f.v days and urging that he, the Primo Minister, should arrange to allow 25 tons of flour to lie railed through the Otira Tunnel from Canterbury to Hokitika and Greymoutb and Reefton direct.
Mr Massey replied promptly as follows :
Your telgram regarding flour to hand. In view of present emergency the Public Works Department will rail through tunnel, twenty tons of flour to meet urgent requirements. Consignors should notify the Hailway Department at once in Christchurch and arrange to get flour rail-
eel by Thursday’s train. Advice lias been received that the flour will arrive here by to-morrow night’s train •a-ud consequently there is n<r fear of any shortage of bread.
