The mail service between North and I South Island is to lie maintained, despite the trouble with seamen and firej mn. The Alararoa will sail at 4 o’clock with mails for Lyttelton this afternoon to he followed at 8 o’clock by the AVaikn-tu with the balance of the mails. The Postal Department is not certain this afternoon whether a boat would come up from Lyttelton with mails tonight, but the Chatham will leave , there for Wellington to-morrow. Alnil connection with Pieton and Nelj son will lie maintained by the Admiral j which will leave Pieton for Wellington to-morrow morning and return in the evening. The Department hopes that after Wednesday it will be able to arrange for n steady service between L.vttel- , ton and Wellington by 11.M.5. Veroniea. and the Tutanekai. The latter left Bind for Lyttelton to-day. The advice of the department to the public is to post their letters and trust j to the Department to maintain the j service. HOLD UP CONTINUES. Most of the southern delegates to the Preshvterian Assembly whicllQopens at Auckland oh Wednesday are held up. hut it is unlikely that the- Assembly will he postponed. HOLD-UP NEAVS. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov 13. Three cars and a charabanc left Christchurch at 9 a.m., loaded with passengers for tlm north, who hope to get across from Pi,-ton. Tlie mail left by car at ten a.m. to connect with the Admiral. The position at Lyttelton is unchanged. The Kaniona arrived to coal the Chatham, but the men have given notice and if new men cannot lie got she will lay up.
