Serious allegations were made at a meeting of the Stewards during the progress of the second day of the Poverty Bay Turf Club's meeting at Malcarnka to-day. In the first race, among the starters, was Persian King, who, on the strength of his wins the two previous days was iavourite. Persian King left the barrier with the field, hut soon fell hack last, and tailed the field the whole distance. After tho race, the Stipendiary Steward (A. Gordon) called W. A. Turnbull and A. J- MeFlinn, the trainer and rider of the horse, before the Stewards. Mcl'linn was asked to account tor the failure in the running .and it was decided to have an analysis made of the horse’s saliva. The matter is now in the hands of the police.
