Tho police charged Janies C. Phillips (licensee of the Mahinhpua Hotel) with allowing liquor to be supplied to a person under 21. years of age, and Christiania Phillips, being a person other than the licensee, with supplying liquor to a person under 21 years of agjg. Evidence was given by Constables McNaulty and Anderson to meeting a lad of 10 or 11 years of age with a jar of beer near Mananui, and that he said Mrs Phillips bad served liim. The facts were admitted by the licensee, who pleaded that Mrs Phillips had acted in ignorance of the law. A conviction was recorded in both charges, a fine of 20s and costs 7s being inflicted in one and 20s and 9s costs in the other. The police charged James Searlc with sending a person under 21 years of age to obtain liquor; with being drunk on the railway line near Manama, and made an application for prohibition order. Mr Murdoch appeared for defendant and pleaded not guilty. After Mr Murdoch had led the evidence of a lad of 11 years who had obtained the beer, Mr Murdoch withdrew the plea of not guilty on the first charge and Sorgt King then withrew the second and third charges. A conviction was recorded and a fine of 10s and costs 7s inflicted. A prohibited person for whom Mr Wells appeared, was charged with procuring liquor, and pleaded not guilty. After hearing Constable Best and the defendant, (who totally denied the charge) his Worship said he did not consider the evidence sufficient to convict. and dismissed the charge. Richard Willetts, a prohibited person (for whom Mr Wells also appeared) was charged with procuring liquor under the same set of circumstances as the previous case, Constable Best s evidence in this case lieing more positive. which the defendant denied. Convicted and ordered to pay costs 7s. A. J. Marshall and W. H. Haile , similarly charged were ordered to pay s costs 7s each. U Jones was fined 10s and costs 7s. A. T. Howe was ordered to pay costs 7s.
