The State Department denies that Britain I,as formally protested against the seizure of ships, ns cabled previously LEGIONS IN CONFERENCE. (Received this day at 8 a.in.) NEW YORK, Oet. 19. (.'apt. Dnrtc, Australian representative at the American Legion Conference meeting at New Orleans, suggested that an organisation he established among the world war veterans representing the English speaking Allies. The suggestion was approved by Genernl Pershing and Commander Macnider. The latter passed a resolution that the effect of the suggestion he referred to the Legions Committee for definite action. Darte received a tremendous ovation when he declared that such an organisation, along sane lines, would he a splendid force for goodwill among the nations concerned end for peace of the rest of the world. COMPLIMENTARY REFERENCES. (Received this dnv at 9..'10 am.) NEW YORK, Oct. 20. At the American Legion Convention, a message from General Monash asserting an unbronnkblc bond existed between Britain and America, whose co-operation would he conducive to the betterment of humanity, was loudly cheered. Capt. Darte presented General Pershing with a legion with framed pictures of the landing at Gallipoli. General Pershing in acknowledgment, glowingly referred to. the bravery and ei durance of Australian forces. Cant. Darte assured the convention of Australia’s admiration for America’s soldiers and her friendship for the American people. He also made a statement outlining Australian repatriation which was received with deepest interest.
