[BY TELEOIUVn peu muss association] DEFENCE DEI’ART.UENT. COLONEL M’DOXA LD'S CHARGES. WELLINGTON, October 18. Seen in reference to the reply hi the House by the -Minister of Defence in regard to the charge that guns and exhibition rifles, etc., had been given to a reputedly wealthy man, and that certain charges connected therewith were defrayed at the public expense, Colonel T. W. M’Donald, who made the charge in an address to the electors of Wellington East stated that the Minister’s answer was an unqualified admission of the truth of the cliargo made by him. An amount was never mentioned by him: neither did it affect the matter. It was, remarked Colonel M’Donnkl. purely a question of principle. The exhibition rifles were of great value and were, he believed incapable of being replaced in 1' southern hemisphere. He welcomed the opportunity of giving evidence before a committee of the House, both oil this matter and on the missing stores question. “My only desire.” added Colonel M’Dnnnhi, “is that an inquiry will he bold without delay and the result at once he made public.” PRICE OF BUTTER.
