AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. BRITAIN SEEKS CONFERENCE. LONDON, October 17. Britain has suggested to France and Italy that a meeting fo Allied experts should be held in London as soon as possible to discuss any necessary modifications of the financial and economic clauses of the Near East Treaty of Sevres.

There is no question that the conference will be quite informal. No definite decisions will be taken. Italy lias agreed to be represented at the meeting. France lias not yetreplied.

COST OF NEAR EAST SCARE

Mr Worthington Evans, Secretary of War-, speaking at London, stated contrary to exaggerated estimates, the actual cost of Government’s preparations in the Near East were under two and a-lialf millions sterling.
