Thirteen Irregulars escaped from Sligo Gaol, by filing the bars of a small window, and descending by ladders made from strips of blankets, and then climbing the outer wall by means of a plank. They then encountered a body of Regulars, and heavy firing at once began throughout the town, with the obvious intention of distracting the Regulars’ attention. The military prisoners then escaped.
