A CROWNING IN TRANSYLVANIA
AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION (Received this dav at 111 a.m.) BUCHAREST, October 16. Alenjulia, the historical capital of Transylvania, was the scene of a remarkable pageantry during the crowning ( f Ferdinand and Marie. All day ’ long there were dazzling spectacles of ' the splendour of the east mingled with ! the dignified ceremonial of the west. The Duke of York represented Britain. Queen Elizabeth of Greece, Prince Paul of Sen-in, the Italian Crown Prince and other Royalties were present and also General Foch. The Roumanian Queen and King re •• iyed a tumultuous reception as they drove to the Cathedral. Three squad-uns of aeroplanes were buzzing over their heads. -After a preliminary religions service j by the Primate of tile Greek Ortho- ' dox Church assisted by Patriarchs fn m every corner of Transylvania, as they j left the church their Majesties were greeted by five hundred officers each carrying regimentil colours. Their Majesties were mounted on a canopied ■ dais. Behind the dais were church dignitaries and troops. j Just before the crowning scores of countrymen dressed in sheep skins penetrated the parks. Soldiers lined 1 in> beside the dais with their wires ! and 1 daughters, singing Roumanian Folk songs. - ! When the singing ended, the Prcsi- | dent brought an iron crown made from j a. cannon captured from Bulgurs at j Plevna, After the King had crowned j himself, the Queen knelt and the King 1 placed on her head a crown of gold. ! diamonds, rubies and emeralds, amid I the ilieers of fifty thousand people, and a- salute of one hundred and one guns.
